Doctor of the Church, St Augustine. Lived during turbulent times. Repented of his many sins, reformed his life and merited an eternal crown of heavenly glory.
Since love grows within you, so beauty grows.
For love is the beauty of the soul.
The world is a book,
and those who do not travel read only a page.
Faith is to believe what you do not yet see;
the reward for this faith is to see what you believe.
Faith of the Ancients. Heb 11:1-2, 8-19
Dum spiro spero
"While I breathe, I hope" in Latin and is a modern paraphrase of ideas
that survive in two ancient writers, Theocritus and Cicero.
Two more by St. Augustine:
"Thence entered I the recesses of my memory, those manifold and spacious chambers, wonderfully furnished with innumerable stores; and I considered, and stood aghast..."
(St. Augustine. Confessions Book XIII)
“Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”
