History of Devotion to the Blessed Mother in North America: An Old Book and a Small Painting of the Immaculate Conception
I have been reminded of an 1880 edition book on Mary and the church that I received from my great aunt many years ago. She received it from her mother and her mother received it from hers.
Unfortunately, this book is falling apart. Fortunately, I found a better copy of the same edition at a rummage sale- of all places! But that shouldn't surprise anyone these days. It cost $1.00.
The book can still be purchased over the internet and it has been adapted for reading online.
North American Devotion
After the introduction, description of the Life of the Blessed Mother and page long meditations on her Litany, the editor provides a detailed history of devotion in North America.
The Jesuits were one of the very first religious groups active in evangelizing the new world. Many were truly exceptional men. One missionary, for which our local University is named, would be Father Marquette. He had an unfailing devotion to Mary, especially under the title Immaculate Conception.
