Icon of the Transfiguration, Crete school, close up study.
This is one that I have left rest for some time. The details are in the "painterly" stage and awaiting further refinement. I have primarily offered it as a demonstration sample.
When you look at this icon "under a magnifying glass" and that is what you are doing here, in this close-up view, you are seeing line formations that are not easily visible to the naked eye.
Many of these under-paint details will be touched up with very clean, polished lines in the final stage. It requires further "transfiguration" so to speak.
The face of Jesus, for example, is only 1 inch in diameter. To complete miniature details I work with a very fine brush as the lines need to be very precise as you might guess.
The total icon scene, in acrylic, measures 16x20 on solid gesso board.
