Saturday I made a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in order to venerate the relic of Pope Saint John Paul II. This particular relic is very special as it is a vial of his blood in liquid state. The reliquary is a nimbus with 12 flames each having a red stone to represent the 12 Apostles. According to the pamphlet the design relates to a homily during the Mass dedicating the Divine Mercy Shrine in Krakow in which the Pope cited a passage from St. Faustina's diary,
"From here there must go forth 'the spark which will prepare the world for (Jesus') final coming.' This spark needs to be lighted by the grace of God. This fire of mercy needs to be passed on to the world."
