O God, who called your servant Louis of France to an earthly throne that he might advance your heavenly kingdom, and gave him zeal for your Church and love for your people: Mercifully grant that we who commemorate him this day may be fruitful in good works, and attain to the glorious crown of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Sainte-Chapelle has been a national historic monument since 1862. On the occasion of the opening of the Year of Saint-Louis in 2014, the 800th year after his birth, the French government granted that a PUBLIC Mass could be celebrated in the Upper Chapel of Sainte-Chapelle (shown above). Veneration of the Crown of Thorns also took place inside on that day. This Royal Chapel was commissioned by St Louis to be a bejeweled "reliquary" and specially suited to house the [Passion] relics. According to one source, the French people earnestly turned "their eyes towards Christ and the gift He gave to the world to save it."
