Holy Family in Art
Artists are receiving requests to paint the Holy Family. This is welcome news because it means that there is an awareness of the need to "re-connect" with the greatest of all families at this time.
A while back I painted a contemporary Eastern icon of the Holy Family. This time the commission request was something much different. The idea was to find inspiration in an old holy card then go from there. The completed version was changed so much that it hardly resembles the original.
A friend of mine kindly observed that my Holy Family reminded her of Tasha Tudor's painting style. I had to look her up and, thank you- I'll take that compliment! The goal was to compose a warm, inviting and "family friendly" version for this particular commission.
Some may think it's a bit too sentimental, but I have found that children (and adults) are attracted to that "cuddliness" and so did Tasha Tudor.
