I can check this destination off my bucket list. But, I would certainly go back.
The richness of Chartres would be difficult to unfold in one or even several posts.
I simply offer this commentary as a way of introduction to what some say is the greatest Gothic Church ever constructed. I found it most pleasing.
A Grand Tour
1. the night view from my very modest but extraordinary room
2. a photo of Malcolm Miller at his best
3. and the Belle Verriere Window.
Note the location of new side altar "chapel" honoring our latest saints, Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII. American Historian, Henry Adams, who wrote on Chartres and its beautiful Queen, might have agreed with this choice of location suggesting that it is exactly where the Heavenly Mother would have wanted these two new saints, her allies in love, to be- very near her throne.
