St Francis begins with praise, honor, glory and thanks to the all-good Lord, Creator of all. His Christian training in holiness has as its starting point "Sanctify yourself and you will sanctify society." Reverence for all that God has created, the beauty and balance which was gravely distorted or even lost after the fall, can be reclaimed in small parts through personal sanctification, that is, setting right and true our own relationship with God, our Heavenly Father, through prayers of worship, thanksgiving and supplication, repentance, penance, and service to the Catholic church "in ruins" and to neighbor. St Francis, experienced not only the strong and enduring love of God as Creator, but also was called to participate mystically, to unite himself radically, to the suffering, abandoned, rejected and crucified Christ. True followers of Christ, he reminded all, will receive no better treatment from the fallen world than that which Our Lord received. Holiness is possible only through embracing of the cross of Christ. The way of the cross, he taught, ultimately leads to victory and God's glory.
For this series, I draw inspiration from late medieval / early Renaissance and Flemish painters, as well as more contemporary artists and techniques. Below are close-ups from my two completed paintings. I utilized traditional egg tempera and mixed mediums. Each painting will be of original design and not copied from another artist's work. There will be a total of five or six (not posted on my site). To inquire about purchase or use, fill the form at the bottom of this page.
