HOLY FAMILY ICON. THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FEAST DAY AND ABOUT ST JOSEPH AS INSTRUCTED BY POPE LEO XIII
The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
The Feast of the Holy Family"was instituted by Pope Leo XIII in 1893 and set on the Sunday within the Octave of the Epiphany; that is to say, on the Sunday between January 7 through January 13." The Vatican’s Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy explains that“this feast day also affords an opportunity for the renewal of our entrustment to the patronage of the Holy Family of Nazareth; the blessing of children as provided for in the ritual; and where opportune, for the renewal of marriage vows taken by the spouses on their wedding day, and also for the exchange of promises between those engaged to be married in which they formalize their desire to found a new Christian family” (n. 112).

About The Feast's Historical Development
This feast day was Canada's gift to the universal Church. In 1663, Barbara d'Hillehoust founded in Montreal, Canada the Association of the Holy Family and this devotion soon spread.
Fulton Sheen, writing from the wealth inspiration, wrote about Holy Family and St Joseph. Two more initiatives during the Pope Leo XIII: the longer version of the St Micheal prayer by Pope Leo XIII; published about the time. Click on the photo to enlarge.

My website template has been recently updated. As a result, NOTES pages might have font and pictorial placement discrepancies.
Original artwork, as opposed to a print of any type, is quite wonderful and by far the most sumptuous and "tactile" of all.
I do accept and appreciate
