Christ the True Vine Icon (Isaiah 27:1–13). An appropriate gift or for private devotion. “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he will take away. And each one that does bear fruit, he will cleanse, so that it may bring forth more fruit. You are clean now, because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so also are you unable, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without me, you are able to do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me, he will be cast away, like a branch, and he will wither, and they will gather him and cast him into the fire, and he burns. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, then you may ask for whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. In this, my Father is glorified: that you should bring forth very much fruit and become my disciples." This "folksy" style of icon was popularized in Eastern Europe and you will find it described in this way: Christ "The True Vine" Orthodox Icon “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me" I have located several examples of this icon online to share with you. A specific feature of this icon is that the vine actually grows out of the side of Christ and, of course, this is symbolic. Christians don't actually believe that Christ walked around with a physical vine appendage! This icon is for sale @275.00. It was completed in 2008 on a 11x13 traditional .75" thick, gessoed board using acrylic paint with 23 KT gold leaf halo and chalice embellishment. The back is unfinished wood, signed. Sold as is, VGC, showing very minor signs of age/use. About limited sales: Devotional sized pieces and miscellaneous artworks that have been part of my private collection and were completed earlier in my career. I am now glad to offer them to the public at a reasonable cost. Cash or verified personal check accepted. There is an additional charge for CC. S&H, and tax. In the future look for listings marked "for sale" on my Notes blog. Thank you for the support!
